• Charles City Challenge Whitewater Festival. Now in its 7th year and winner of Iowa Tourism Award for Outstanding Event See this event at the Whitewater and Riverfront Park as paddlers compete in events for kayaks and stand-up paddleboards. Additional action on shore for those who prefer to remain dry. www.ccwhitewater.com

• The Charles City BBQ Challenge is now “Smoke on the Cedar.” Situated along the Cedar River in downtown Charles City, this BBQ contest is open to the first 20 professional and amateur BBQ smokers alike to sign up. Smoke on the Cedar will be part of the Whitewater Festival.
