A women’s clothing and accessory boutique has arrived in Clear Lake.
That’s thanks to Carisa Danielson, of Ames, who opened The Funky Zebras, 210 U.S. Highway 18 Suite B, in Clear Lake on Saturday.
“Everybody who came in was super positive and happy to have something in town that was different,” Danielson said. “It was a good weekend.”
Remodeling at the storefront began a month ago to turn the former office space into a neighborhood shopping experience.
The boutique, located in the former Shelter Insurance storefront at the Plaza 210 shopping center, offers an array of trendy and contemporary summer tops, bottoms and dresses as well as handbags, footwear and jewelry.
“We get new things every week,” Danielson said.
Danielson, who teaches sixth grade social studies in Ames, said she decided to open The Funky Zebras after a friend did in another community.
She and her mother and 13-year-old daughter Addyson, who will be helping out at the store, enjoy fashion, and opening a boutique was something they always talked about doing.

“When it came up, we went for it,” Danielson said.
She was attracted to Clear Lake because of its tourism and its lake views.
The boutique will employ four individuals, including one full-time manager who will oversee store operations when Danielson is teaching.
“I’m looking forward to helping women find that perfect outfit and meeting a lot of new people up here,” Danielson said. “Hopefully, our family will get to spend time on the lake while we’re up here, too.”
There are boutiques by the same name under different owners in Ankeny, Ames, Clive, Grundy Center, Pella and Webster City.
The Funky Zebras is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and Friday through Saturday; 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday; and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday.
