Shane and Kyla Servantez handle all things glass at River City Glass and Detail.
The Mason City natives opened their own business in April 2017, after Shane worked 10 years at Lea Mobile Glass. He also has worked on vehicle detailing for 20 years, so the business blends his work experience. Kyla supports the operation with detailing and office operations.
“If it’s glass, we do it,” Shane said.
That includes chip repair and replacement of glass windows and windshields in homes, tractors, cars, trucks, and heavy equipment. He’ll also repair screens, custom mirrors, and decorative glass for homeowners. River City Glass and Detail offers mobile service within 60 miles. The business uses original equipment manufacturer, or OEM, adhesives and will coordinate with insurance companies on covered repairs.
He works with three glass distributors out of Des Moines that cut glass to order and ship overnight to Mason City. The business also keeps some common pieces in stock, like Chevy truck windshields.
Detailing of vehicles is done in River City’s climate-controlled, insured shop.
“We shampoo, use a hot water extractor, and do stain removal and paint correction,” Kyla said. “We’ve done a lot of work on used vehicles for dealerships and brought cars back to the point where people will want to buy them.”
Their web site at rivercityglassanddetail.com includes before and after pictures of several detailing jobs done at the shop.
“I try to keep my prices low, while still doing quality work,” Shane said.
Kyla added, “We try to be friendly, stress-free, and affordable for our customers. And we’re flexible for what’s on the customer’s schedule.”
Shane and Kyla have two children: Cambree, 8, and Cole, 5.
“The business has been going well so far, better than we expected. We’ve had quite a bit of business this year, with referrals from customers and body shops,” Kyla said.
The website also includes links to the Humane Society of North Iowa, where the couple sponsors up to three animals at a time for adoption and encourages others to do the same.
