Clear Lake, Ventura residents offered 'lightning-fast' Internet

CLEAR LAKE — Clear Lake and Ventura residents now have access to “lightning-fast” Internet speeds with Lightstream, according to a news release from CL Tel in Clear Lake.

“Everyone can have access to much faster Internet, ranging from 5 to 200 times faster than today’s speeds,” said Tom Lovell, general manager. “This is important because people are using more devices — smart phones, iPads, laptops, they are streaming shows or movies,” Lovell said. “All of these require more Internet speed. For anyone who works from home, it’s a necessity. We have leveraged our network to provide the service that people across the nation are craving.

“It’s the best of both worlds — being able to live in a community with this quality of life but also have access to metro-quality services,” he said.

Lightstream includes a variety of packages. It also allows residents to have high-definition TV throughout their home at no additional cost and choose which package of channels they wish to watch.

Most of Clear Lake’s businesses and industries will soon have access to high-speed Gigabit Internet service. Businesses in the industrial park, business park and the Fieldstone area are being connected to the fiber optic network.

“A fiber optics network provides the broadband infrastructure that is essential to our community’s and our country’s economic success,” Lovell said. “We’re firm believers that our local businesses should have at least the same advanced technology as a business in a large city.”

CL Tel was an early provider of fiber optics in Iowa, installing its first network in 1989 to connect all long distance calls to Iowa Network Services. Other fiber optics projects have been methodically deployed throughout the years in Clear Lake and Ventura and more will be constructed based on customer demand.
