BRITT | The key to the West Hancock Eagles’ (2-3) offense was the ground game in their 30-0 defeat of Grundy Center (3-2).
Senior MaCoy Yeakel led the team in rushing with 161 yards on 11 carries and one touchdown. Sophomore Tate Hagen had 89 yards on 23 carries, including two touchdowns. Hagen also had a return for touchdown and a two-point conversion.
Sophomore Yosef Smith also had 62 yards on 11 carries, including one two-point conversion.
The defense played a key role in the shutout.
Junior Caleb Eckles had 8 ½ totaltackles, while senior Hunter Hagen had eight tackles, including one for loss and one sack. Senior Zach Clark had five tackles, including two sacks. Senior Kolby Goepel had four tackles, two for loss, and one sack assist. Sophomores Chandler Redenius and Josef Smith each had one solo sack.
On Friday, the Eagles will travel to Mason City to take on Newman Catholic (4-1).
