Some of you may know that the Britt postal routes have been transferred to Garner. Our local mail carriers now have to drive to Garner to pick up mail for Britt and then return to Britt for delivery. That's the same as our rural carriers used to do outside of Britt.
In other words, our entire town is now a rural route out of Garner. Also, the temporary postmaster has been transferred to Belmond.
It is my understanding that the Postal Service has adamantly denied that it has immediate plans to close our post office. That reminds me a little bit of the wolf in "Red Riding Hood." The Post Office will be closed next.
Make no mistake, it is the Postal Service's intention to close our post office. They have a methodical process of doing so depending upon the reaction they receive from the populace.
The bureaucrats operate on the premise that if they remove a little bit of service at a time, then we will be grateful just to have our mail delivered.
I have a suggestion for saving the Postal Service money - go down the line and fire every other bureaucrat to save money, then come back to us for to ask for our sacrifice!
It may be too late to stop them from doing this, but you should try. Call your senators - Sen. Charles Grassley at 202-224-3744, and Sen. Tom Harkin at 202-224-3254.
