GARNER | Cancer survivors, caregivers and community members gathered at Veterans Memorial Recreation Center in Garner Friday evening for the 20th annual Relay for Life of Hancock County.
The event, which was held from 6:15 to 10:15 p.m., serves as a local fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, a nationwide nonprofit organization that’s dedicated to researching all types of cancer, finding innovative ways to screen for cancer and developing treatment options that slow, stop and cure cancer.
Since the event started in Hancock County, individuals, teams and businesses have donated thousands of dollars toward cancer research and programs or services that benefit area cancer patients and their families.
The theme for this year’s Relay was “Attacking All Cancers and Giving Hope.” It featured a survivors’ reception, freewill community meal, door prizes, games, entertainment and silent auction,
Gary Gjerstad of Britt, who was this year’s honorary ambassador, also shared about his journey with cancer.
