BRITT — West Hancock’s MaCoy Yeakel etched his name in the state record book Friday night.
The senior returned three punts for a touchdown, which tied a state record. Yeakel averaged 50 yards per return on four returns, and had a long of 89. He also had a big night on kickoff returns as well with six for 250.
In their first win of the season, the Eagles’ offense was firing on all cylinders.
The running game, which had struggled at times over the first two weeks, found traction behind sophomore Parker Fuering, who ran the ball 18 times for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Freshman Cole Kelly added 91 yards and a touchdown on eight carries, junior Reed Brown had nine carries for 47 yards, and sophomore Brayden Leerar had two carries for 40 yards.
Yeakel also had a touchdown on the ground.
Quarterback Chase Eisenman didn’t have to do much with the Eagles rolling elsewhere, but the senior was 1 for 1 for 38 yards and a touchdown. Caleb Eckels was the recipient of the touchdown.
Defensively, sophomore Tate Hagen had seven total tackles, including 1 1/2 for a loss. Tristan hunt added six tackles of his own.
West Hancock (1-2, 1-0) travels to West Fork next Friday.
