CLEAR LAKE | Clear Lake senior Sam Pedelty signed a national letter of intent Wednesday to run cross country at NIACC next fall.
Pedelty placed 40th in the Class 3A state cross country meet in a time of 17:00 in the 5-kilometer race.
"I came to the cross country camp at NIACC last summer and coach (Curtis Vais) taught me a lot of things," Pedelty said. "My brother also went to NIACC and he said it was a good school."
Pedelty will join a NIACC men's cross country team that includes one of his former high school teammates (Grant Dieken) and former competitior (GHV's Logan Dalbeck).

Hawkeyes short two starters for bowl game
IOWA CITY | When the Iowa football team begins its regular game-week preparation routine for the Pinstripe Bowl today, the Hawkeyes will be working without two starters.
The reasons differ, but offensive tackle Alaric Jackson and strong safety Miles Taylor will not participate in the game against Boston College next Wednesday at Yankee Stadium.
Jackson, a 12-game starter at left tackle as a redshirt freshman, will not play because of what coach Kirk Ferentz described as a violation of team rules.
Taylor, a senior who started in nine games this season, will make the trip but will be sidelined after undergoing what Ferentz labeled a “surgical procedure" following Iowa's regular-season finale at Nebraska.
