Roberts wins national deadlifting competition

Carter Roberts, a 2017 Mason City High School graduate, has had two top-placings in powerlifting competitions.

Roberts took first place in the teen division’s deadlift competition at the International Powerlifting Association’s Flex Lewis Classic in early October. Roberts weighed in at 195 pounds to compete in the 198-pound division and won the competition with a pull of 585 pounds. He also placed first in the same division at the Iowa State fair.

This is Roberts’ first year of competitive powerlifting. He will be competing in his first all-around competition on bench, squat and deadlift at United Powerlifting Association meet in Dubuque this November. Roberts is currently attending UNI for a degree in business, hoping to own and operate his own gym someday.
