Mohawks win cross-town rivalry
MASON CITY – Mason City defeated Clear Lake on its home turf on Monday, May 14.
David Johnson and Jeffrey Skogen scored for the Mohawks. Derek Johnson recorded an assist. Thomas Kadera had six saves in the shutout.
“It was a great night for the Mohawks,” head coach Bryan DeGabriele said. “Defensively, we were in great position all night and our midfielders were moving the ball as well as any game this year. We continue to get better and better with each passing game.”
The Mohawks open tournament play against Cedar Rapids Jefferson at
5:00 PM on Monday, May 21st at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex in Cedar Falls/Waterloo.
Hampton-Dumont, Osage girls compete at Regionals
DIKE – Osage and Hampton-Dumont competed at Regionals at Dike Fox Ridge on May 14.
New Hampton, Dike New Hartford and West Marshall topped the team standings with scores of 341, 387 and 392 respectively.
Osage claimed fifth overall with a team score of 418 and Hampton-Dumont came in next with a team score of 422.
The team-low for the Bulldogs was Sydney Meyer’s 102. Kaci Arjes was the next best with a 103 and Maci Arjes added a 107. Annika Miller and Hallie Dombroski each carded 110.
Cardinals advance to regionals, Frayne adds to medal collection
EMMETSBURG – Garner-Hayfield-Ventura will advance to the regional final next week at home after taking third overall at district.
Bailee Frayne was the first place medalist, carding a 73 and Carlee Frayne took fourth with a score of 86.
Bishop Garrigan and Newman Catholic top standings at Regionals
LIVERMORE – The Class 1A Regionals were held at Spring Valley Golf Course in Livermore on Monday, May 14.
The top three teams: Bishop Garrigan, Newman Catholic and St. Edmonds will advance to Regionals 2.
Bishop Garrigan took first overall with a team score of 430, their lowest being from Bella Capesius, whom carded a 93 as the individual first place medalist. Alexis Berte added 110 and Kelly Baade carded 112. Anna Berke capped it off with a 115.
The Newman Catholic girls took second behind Paige Walker’s score of 101. Peyton Olson added another strong performance with 103 strokes. Amara Wolf carded 105 and Emma Anderegg shot 121 to cap off the Knights’ score.
St. Edmonds took third with a team score of 434.
West Hancock took fourth behind top-performer Stephanie Melohn, whom carded a 96.
West Fork took fifth overall with a score of 492. Grace Shreckengost was the top performer with a 106. Lake Mills took sixth with a score of 495, Audrey Casperson carding a 111.
Northwood-Kensett came in seventh with a team score of 561 and North Iowa would take eighth with a score of 582.
