Kraft three-time Iowa Conference champion
Decorah – The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has released the all-conference honorees for 2018 in swimming and diving. For an athlete to earn all-conference honors, they must place in the top-two of an individual event or be a member of a first or second place relay team during the conference championships.
The Iowa Conference championship actually takes place simultaneously with the final national qualifying meet of the season the Liberal Arts Championships. At the conclusion of the Liberal Arts Championships, the meet is rescored with just the teams from the Iowa Conference and the team champion and all-conference honors are determined.
Sam Kraft, a 2014 graduate of Mason City High School, earned six all-conference honors. Kraft was crowned the league champion in the 200 freestyle – third time of career - 500 freestyle – second time of career - and 1650 freestyle – third time of career. She was also a member of the first place 800 freestyle relay – fourth time of her career - and runner-up 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay.
Waldorf drops pair of games
TUCSON, Ariz. – Trying to become the cardiac kids in the desert sun, the Waldorf baseball team couldn’t finish off the comeback to start the day, falling 9-6 to Mount Marty at the Tucson Invitational Games tournament.
The Lancers ended up sweeping the non-conference doubleheader, taking the nightcap 13-2 on Wednesday night.
“It was an embarrassing day,” Waldorf head coach Joe Tautges said. “We are in a slump right now and have to find a way to get out of it fast or it’s going to be a long week.”
Jimmy Quirk and Matt Garcia each had a pair of hits and an RBI for the Warriors in the opener. One of Quirk's hits was a home run.
Jacob Tedesco had a single and a double in the nightcap, and Riley MacDonald knocked in one run.
