Bartolo named to baseball coaches hall of fame

CEDAR RAPIDS | Algona's John Bartolo is one of six named to the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame for 2018.

Bartolo, a retired Bishop Garrigan coach and longtime official, joins Lemars' Marty Kurth, Vinton's Wes Obermueller, North Polk's Tom Owen, Oskaloosa's Emory Stewart and Jim Struve, also of Vinton.

Bartolo and the others will be inducted during the IHSBCA's Hall of Fame weekend, held Friday and Saturday, Jan. 19-20, in Cedar Rapids.

NIACC women sit at 10th in NJCAA poll

MASON CITY | The NIACC women's basketball team is ranked No. 10 in the fifth NJCAA Divsion II poll released Tuesday.

NIACC (13-3 overall) was No. 2 in the Dec. 5, Dec. 12 and Dec. 19 polls. The Lady Trojans were No. 9 in the Oct. 26 preseason poll.

The NIACC women placed fourth in the Illinois Central Cougar Holiday tournament Dec. 28-30. The Lady Trojans topped Kalamazoo Valley CC (122-58) and then dropped a 66-62 decision to No. 7 Illinois Central and lost to No. 8 Owens CC (73-63) in the consolation game.

Monroe CC (N.Y.) is the top-ranked team with a record of 15-1.

Kirkwood (14-3) moved up to No. 2 in in this week's poll after winning the Illinois Central tournament. Southeastern CC (11-3) is ranked 14th and DMACC (12-3) is ranked 15th. 

NIACC opens ICCAC play at home on Saturday against Southeastern. It will be the Lady Trojans' first home contest since Nov. 26.

Yahoo Sports to livestream NFL games

NEW YORK (AP) | Yahoo Sports will livestream all four divisional playoff games this weekend and the conference championships as an appetizer for next season when every game from the preseason to the Super Bowl will be livestreamed on its sports app.

Watching NFL games on your phone used to be mainly limited to Verizon customers but that changed now that Verizon owns Yahoo. So, now anyone is able to watch football games on the go for free on Yahoo's app regardless of mobile network.

Fans have to download the Yahoo Sports app on iOS or Google Play and enable location services on their phone.
