For 28 years, Gary Weber built his legend matside coaching the Clear Lake wrestling team.

He compiled 446 victories in 34 years of coaching wrestling in Iowa (he also coached for six years at Plainfield), and now, nearly two years after his retirement, Weber is heading into the Iowa National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

For Weber, the award was more about the people he worked with than himself.

“Truthfully, it was the 21 assistant coaches and most important, the wrestlers, who helped with this award,” Weber said. “But it was also the parents, fans, cheerleaders and statisticians as well. A lot of people put in a lot of work.”

Weber was nominated by the Iowa Wrestling Coaches Association and Officials Association.
