AMES | Mason City opened their season with a 12-25, 25-20, 17-25, 12-25 loss to Ames Tuesday night.

Grace Tobin, a sophomore, recorded 14 kills. Bobbi Tilkes had 14 digs and 4 kills. Sierra Miner had 14 assists and Cassie Sievers finished with 9 assists. 

"With a young team like this, I was excited to see girls step up and play roles they haven't always been known for," said head coach Nicole Hunter. "We definitely need to get into more of an offensive groove, but we have a lot of potential and options to get us there."

The Mohawks return to action Thursday night at home against New Hampton.

The Vikings opened the season the 25-12, 25-8, 25-22 sweep of the Wildcats Tuesday in Riceville. 

N-K's Dusti Bratrud was 16 of 16 serving with 4 aces. She also had 11 assists. Lindy Harris has 6 kills and 4 solo blocks. 

Riceville's Aby Adams was 9 of 10 serving with 2 aces. Abby Marr had 3 kills and 5 solo blocks.

ROCKFORD 3, CLARKSVILLE 0

The Warriors opened their season Tuesday with a 25-21, 25-12, 25-19 sweep in Rockford.

Marissa Norby was 14 of 14 serving with 3 aces. Mac LaCoste finished with 17 assists. Megan Staudt had 10 digs.
