Pedelty, Clear Lake boys win NCC title

ALGONA — Clear Lake’s boys cross country dynasty got one back Tuesday night in Algona.

For the first time in two seasons, the Lions claimed the North Central Conference title, and Clear Lake’s own Sam Pedelty was the individual champion in 16 minutes, 56 seconds.

Clear Lake cleared Humboldt by two points to win the title.

“It was an amazing race,” Clear Lake coach Nick DiMarco said. Humboldt had a great strategy of getting guys out fast so we had to work the entire three miles to make up some ground. We talked a lot about effort and commitment before the race and they showed tremendous grit and determination to eek that out.”

Eric Faught and Ike Branstad also earned all-conference honors as Faught was fifth in 17:21 and Branstad placed eighth in 17:49. Dylan Schuchard added an 11th-place finish in 18:09 and Justin Wright was 13th in 18:17.

Algona's top finisher was Trey Engen, who placed fourth in 17:10.16.

On the girls side, Clear Lake’s Gretchen Jones earned all-conference by placing eighth in 21:17. Aleena Gabrielson added a 16th-place showing in 22:14.

Hampton-Dumont's Patty Teggatz placed seventh in 21:10.11 to make the all-conference team.

Algona's Hailey Schmidt also earned a spot on the all-conference team after placing 10th in 21:28.33.


North Iowa 3, Northwood-Kensett 1

NORTHWOOD — North Iowa took care of Northwood-Kensett in four sets Tuesday night, 25-17, 23-25, 25-23, 25-15.

Dusti Bratrud led the Vikings with nine kills and six assists, Sarah Pederson had 14 digs, Lindy Harris had five kills, and Paige DeArmoun was 10-for-10 serving and added seven digs.

CGD 3, GHV 0

GARNER — Clarion-Goldfield-Dows made quick work of Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Tuesday night as it rolled to a sweep, 25-17, 25-12, 25-15.

Jacki Van Oort had five kills and five digs for the Cardinals, Bailee Frayne handed out 10 assists and had four digs, and Morgan Westendorf added four kills.

Lake Mills sweeps in home quad

Lake Mills volleyball went undefeated in their quadrangle night.

The Bulldogs defeated Hampton-Dumont 25-14, 25-11, Nashua-Plainfield, 25-14, 25-8 and North Butler 25-17, 25-18.

Behind senior setter Ashley Groe’s 72 assists, four hitters racked up double-digit kills.

Senior middle blocker Mallory Wilhelm finished with a team-high of 26 kills on offense and led the front-line defense with three total blocks, including one solo. Senior Teah Kesler was next in line with 21 kills. Juniors Hannah Hanson and Megan Groe each had 16 kills and 12 kills respectively.

Leading the back-line defense was senior Dana Baumann with 25 digs, senior Laura Knudtson also eclipsed the 20-dig mark with 21.

The Bulldogs will complete their regular season with a tournament in Algona on Saturday.
