CEDAR FALLS — Mason City’s Piper Watson may have jumped herself into the Drake Relays Tuesday night in a meet at Cedar Falls.

Watson soared over the bar at 5 feet, 3 inches to take first place and move her into a tie for 21st in the state. The Top 24, including ties, in the state make the Drake Relays. The final day to qualify is Thursday.

The Mohawks’ distance medley relay team of Odeleine Daugherty, Hannah Faktor, Megan Meyer and Emma Davison followed up that performance with a first-place finish of their own in 4:23.41.

Emma Davison added a third-place finish in the 1,500 (5:08.76), Mya Jalukar was third in the 3,000 (12:32.59), Karynna Jones placed fourth in the 800 (2:40.43), the 4x100 team was fourth (53.48), and Erika Mariner placed sixth in the 100 hurdles (17.40).

“Piper started us off just amazing and it got everybody excited,” Mason City coach Jim Lee said. “All the kids tonight, it was nice seeing that many kids run lifetime bests so that means we’re coming along like we need to.”

Mason City is at Fort Dodge Thursday.
