CLEAR LAKE — Clear Lake forced 13th-ranked (3A) Humboldt to work for everything it got Thursday in a North Central Conference match, but wound up falling in four sets.

Set scores were 25-15, 23-25, 25-14, 27-25.

North Iowa 3, Newman 2

BUFFALO CENTER — North Iowa topped Newman Catholic in a five-set thriller Thursday night in a Top of Iowa Conference crossover match.

The Bison won by set scores of 20-25, 25-16, 31-29, 23-25, 15-8.


Newman boys, N-P girls win titles at Central Springs

MANLY — Newman Catholic had all five of its scoring runners place inside the Top 10 as it ran to the boys title Thursday at the Panther Cross Country Invitational.

Lake Mills sophomore Carson Rygh won the individual title in 16 minutes, 42.5 seconds. Nashua-Plainfield’s Brock Dietz was second in 16:48.5 and Central Springs’ Ellis Regan was third in 17:31.7

For the Knights, Stephen Ringo was fourth (17:38.6), Isaac Fetkether was fifth (17:40), Jacob Schutt placed seventh (17:51.1), Jacob McBride was eighth (17:59.9) and Braden Petree took ninth (18:00.2).

On the girls’ side, Northwood-Kensett sophomore Lindsey Davidson ran to the individual title in 20:41.5 while Nashua-Plainfield claimed the team title.

Aubrey Eick led the huskies with a third-place finish (21:01) while Faith Carpenter was fourth (21:21.4).

Eagle Grove took second as a team and Newman was third.
