JOHNSTON | While the Mason City girls swimming team posted some solid performances, Johnston’s depth proved too much for the Mohawks in a 135-48 Dragons win on Tuesday.
Johnston started the meet quickly by taking the top two spots in the 200 medley relay and the top three spots in each of the first two individual events.
Madison Braun posted the lone win of the evening for Mason City as the sophomore took first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:14.58.
Braun narrowly edged out Angela Carey of Johnston, who finished in 1:14.78.
Thea Lunning took second in the 500 freestyle in 5:53.62 while Paige Braun was second in the 100 backstroke in 1:08.71.
Mason City finished second in both freestyle relays.
Madison Braun, Paige Braun, Marley Hagerty and Nia Litterer put up a time of 1:51.64 in the 200 freestyle relay.
“Nia went 26.60 in her split in the 200 free relay,” Mason City coach Steve Hugo said. “That was our fastest split this year.”
Lunning, Hagerty and the Braun sisters swam the 400 freestyle relay in a time 4:08.40, which was good for second in the event.
Mason City returns to the pool on Tuesday when it travels to second-rated West Des Moines Dowling.
