LIVERMORE — For the second straight year, the Newman Catholic girls golf team is heading to the Class 1A state tournament.

On Monday in a regional tournament at Spring Valley Golf Course, the Knights punched their ticket after shooting 409 to place second.

Morgan Luecht, who also qualified as an individual, led the Knights with a 95 (50-45), which tied her for fifth place individually.

Peyton Olson also recorded a sub-100 round as she shot 97 (51-46) to place eighth.

The Knights’ Paige Walker added a 107 (55-52) and Katie Mason rounded out the scoring with a 110 (59-51). McKenzie Sullivan and Amara Wolf added non-counting rounds of 118 and 122, respectively.

Bishop Garrigan’s Isabella Capesius advanced through as an individual after shooting a 95 (52-43) to tie for fifth place.

North Iowa’s Sydney Giesking, also competing as an individual, just missed qualifying as she shot 97 to finish two strokes back of the cut off.

Rockford, led by Sydney Fullerton’s round of 101, placed fifth in the team race with 434.

The state meet will be held May 30-31 at American Legion Memorial Golf Course in Marshalltown.
