WATERLOO — Mason City senior Sydney Eaton earned the right to finish her career at the girls state golf tournament next week as she finished as runner-up in the regional tournament Monday at Irv Warren Memorial Golf Course.

Eaton carded a 74 to tie for first with Cedar Falls’ Taylor Sernett, but lost on a card-back to earn meet runner-up. Eaton is a three-time state qualifier.

Mason City came up just short in the team race, placing third with 382, which was 17 strokes away from qualifying for state.

Cedar Falls won with a 312 and Linn-Mar was second with a 365.

The state tournament will be held May 30-31 at Coldwater Links in Ames.
