Newman, Rockford advance to regional final

BRITT – Morgan Luecht of Newman Catholic carded an 84 to earn medalist honors and lead the Knights to a win in Class 1A girls regional golf at the Britt Golf Club on Monday.

Peyton Olson and Katie Mason added 99s for Newman while Amara Wolf rounded out the Knights team total with a 105.

Newman’s 387 was 21 strokes better than second-place Rockford with finished at 408.

Both teams advance to regional final play at Spring Valley on May 22.

Sydney Giesking of North Iowa was medalist runner-up with a 90 and will advance to regional individual play along with Luecht, Sydney Fullerton of Rockford and Sarah Goodrich of North Butler.

Garrigan's Capesius moves on in 1A

FORT DODGE – Isabella Capesius of Bishop Garrigan finished fourth in Class 1A regional girls golf at Lakeside Golf Course on Monday to advance to regional final play on May 22.

Capesius led the Golden Bears to a team score of 417, which was good for fifth place in the region.

River Valley scored a 380 to win the team title by 27 strokes over Newell-Fonda.

Jasmine Turner of Audubon was medalist with an 89.

N-P's Hillesheim advances in 2A postseason

NASHUA – Haley Hillesheim of Nashua-Plainfield carded a 95 en route to a third-place finish in girls Class 2A regional golf at Town & Country Golf Club in Nashua on Monday.

Hillesheim advances to Monday’s regional final at Rice Lake Golf Club.

South Winneshiek used Jaden Schweinefus’ medalist round of 75 to the team title with a 391 score while Grundy Center finished second at 415.

Nashua-Plainfield was third at 422.

Central Springs finished fourth with a team score of 434, St. Ansgar was seventh at 465 and West Fork was eighth at 477.

Lake Mills places fifth in 2A regional

EAGLE GROVE – The Lake Mills girls golf team finished fifth in regional play on Monday at the Eagle Grove Golf Club.

The Bulldogs finished with a team total of 426 while Belmond-Klemme was eighth with a 519.

Emmetsburg and Ogden advanced to regional final play with team scores of 371 and 392, respectively.

Allison Freeman of Emmetsburg was medalist with an 82.

Algona’s season ends in regional tournament

SIOUX CENTER — Algona finished fifth place Monday in a Class 3A regional tournament as its season came to an end.

The Bulldogs shot 418 while Spirit Lake won with a 365 and MOC-Floyd Valley shot 374.

Dianna Wang led the Bulldogs with a 99, Hallie Lovstad shot 102, Camryn Shaw had a 112 and Abby Thul finished with a 115.
