NASHUA — After a year away last season, the Bishop Garrigan boys golf team is heading back to the state tournament after winning a Class 1A district title Monday at Nashua Town and Country Club.
The Golden Bears won at 333 and Gundy Center was the final team qualifier with a 335.
Newman Catholic missed qualifying as a team as it placed third with a 343, but Austin Eckenrod did qualify as an individual after shooting a 76 (42-34) to place fourth.
Hudson’s Noah Haack was meet medalist with a 74 while Garrigan’s Logan Capesius and Grundy Center’s Jesper Holke-Farnam each shot 75 to tie for runner-up.
After Capesius, Donovan Berte shot 84, Andrew Arndorfer carded an 86 and James Burns and Tommy Kollasch each shot 88.
For Newman, Jase Curley shot 88, Ryan Fischer had an 89 and Andy Hitchcock carded a 90.
Rockford placed fifth in the team race with a 354, St. Ansgar was sixth with a 357 and West Hancock was 10th with a 426.
The state tournament will be held Friday and Saturday at American Legion Memorial Golf Course in Marshalltown.
