CLARION — Clear Lake came just short of winning a North Central Conference title Monday as it finished three strokes behind Webster City to take second place. The Lynx won with 309 while Clear Lake shot 312.
“We’re confident with the team and we just keep getting better and better,” Clear Lake’s Jackson Hamlin said.
Thomas Storbeck earned runner-up medalist with a 1-over par 73 while Hamlin, who has vastly improved since the beginning of the season, was second on the team with a 78.
“I remember last year I started pretty bad, too, but I just got better,” Hamlin said. “My game came together, I practiced as much as I could and just got it in my head.”
Kyle Calaguas came in just behind Hamlin with a 79 and Alex Snelling rounded out the Lions’ scoring with an 82. Evan Krause (83) and Tate Storbeck (85) added non-counting scores.
All six of Clear Lake’s golfers finished in the top 13.
Algona, led by Jackson Helmers’ round of 86, placed seventh in the team standings with a 375, and Justin Kent’s 92 led Hampton-Dumont to finish eighth with a 438.
Webster City’s Connor Shannon finished at even-par (72) to win the individual conference title.
