GREENE | Newman Catholic and North Butler closed out the 2017 season committed to a fireworks show.

In the end, Newman's display packed a bit more punch.

The Knights (5-4) scored on touchdown plays of 75 and 44 yards en route to a 35-12 win over the Bearcats.

North Butler scored on plays of 70 and 50 yards.

The Knights jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead behind 6- and 2-yard touchdown runs by Josh Fitzgerald.

The Bearcats got on the board midway through the second quarter with a 70-yard catch and run from Kane Allison to Brandon Trees.

Fitzgerald and senior quarterback Austin Eckenrod slammed the door on a Bearcat rally on a 75-yard strike with 1:09 to play in the first half.

Eckenrod added a second TD pass, a 44-yarder to Jack McGuire, in the third quarter. Senior Jace Leininger added a 1-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter. Senior Caden Kratz was 5 for 5 on PAT attempts. 

North Butler senior Sam Dolan closed out the scoring with a 55-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter. .

The Bearcats (3-6) saw their season derailed by a rash of injuries that forced the team to forfeit a pair of games.
