CHARLES CITY — College time has come early for Charles City’s McKayla Cole.

The Comets’ cross country and track star signed her National Letter of Intent to join the University of Northern Iowa women’s track and field team this spring after graduating early from Charles City.

Cole is fresh off a second-place finish at the Class 3A girls state cross country meet and she helped the Comets to their best finish in school history by placing third in the team race.

Cole placed third in her sophomore and junior seasons and was 13th as a freshman.

At the state track and field meet in May, Cole turned in a sixth-place finish in the 3A 3,000, placed eighth in the 800 and was 11th in the 1,500.
