HAMPTON | Elizabeth Jenkins finished Thursday's loss with a triple double — 15 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocks. Hali Anderson recorded 15 points, 8 rebounds and 6 steals.

West Hancock 56, Rockford 18

ROCKFORD | Three Eagles finished the night with double figures in scoring. Kelly Leerar led the team with 16 points, while Rachel Leerar and Amanda Chizek scored 15 points and 11 points, respectively.

Jamie Schuster led the Lady Warriors with 12 points and 6 rebounds.

West Hancock (8-1) is ranked sixth in the latest IGHSAU Class 1A rankings.

Algona 59, Bishop Garrigan 54

ALGONA | Three Bulldogs scored in double figures in Thursday's win over the No. 11 (1A) Golden Bears.

Aliyah Buscher led the field with 24 points. Abbey Holmes followed with 20 points and Molly McCauley finished with 15 points.

Jenna Boelter led Garrigan with 17 points. Kaylyn Meyers added 15 points.

BELMOND | Dylan Anderson posted a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double as the Broncos (1-8) picked up their first of the season.

Easton Barrus finished with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Koty Kuhlers had 10 points.

St. Ansgar 35, Hampton-Dumont 31

HAMPTON | Collin Kramer and Nicholas Bork scored 8 points each for the Saints.

Wyatt led H-D with 9 points. Joe Vondra followed with 6 points.

GHV 68, Humboldt 56

HUMBOLDT | The Cardinals stepped out of Top of Iowa Conference play in Thursday's win over the Wildcats.

Nick Joynt led the way with 30 points. Ryan Meyers added 18 points and James Betz finished with 14.

Calvin Carlson led Humboldt with 14 points.

WRESTLING

Central Springs 43, Charles City 31

CHARLES CITY | The Panthers won six of Thursday's matches by pin or forfeit.

Zach Ryg, ranked third in Class 1A at 182 pounds, won an 11-0 major decision over Sam Niichel. Zack Santee, ranked fourth in 1A at 220 pounds, posted a 7-6 decision over Josh Halligan.

Charles City's Dylan Koresh, rated ninth in 2A, pinned Dylan Marker in 3:31.

PREP WRESTLING

GHV splits duals

IOWA FALLS | The Cardinals beat Rockford 45-23 and dropped a 58-24 decision to Iowa Falls/Aden Thursday night.

Jared Shaw, wrestling at 152 pounds, picked up two pins, as did 182-pounder Nick Billings.

Urbandale 45, Mason City 31

URBANDALE | Mason City 182-pounder and heavyweight Troy Monahan won by fall. Cullan Schriever won by forfeit at 106.

BOYS SWIMMING

Ames 107, Mason City 33

AMES | Mason City's Derek Johnson placed second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.9, putting him on the Mohawk all-time chart for the first time.

Michael Rowe was third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:37.37, cutting his personal best by three seconds.

The Mohawks host a meet against Marshalltown on January 3.

PREP CROSS COUNTRY

Charles City's Connell signs with NIACC

CHARLES CITY | Charles City's Gavin Connell signed a national letter of intent on Thursday to run cross country at NIACC in the fall of 2018.

Connell placed 36th in the Class 3A state cross country meet during his senior season in a time of 16:57 in the five-kilometer race.

On Wednesday, NIACC signed Clear Lake's Sam Pedelty, who placed 40th at the Class 3A state meet.

The NIACC men's cross country team placed 18th at the 2017 NJCAA Division I meet in Fort Dodge. The Trojans' Brian Jacques earned all-American honors with his seventh-place finish.

The NIACC men have placed in the top 10 at the national meet four of the last seven seasons.
