ROCKFORD | Three Eagles finished the night with double figures in scoring. Kelly Leerar led the team with 16 points, while Rachel Leerar and Amanda Chizek scored 15 points and 11 points, respectively.

Aliyah Buscher led the field with 24 points. Abbey Holmes followed with 20 points and Molly McCauley finished with 15 points.

Jenna Boelter led Garrigan with 17 points. Kaylyn Meyers added 15 points.

BELMOND | Dylan Anderson posted a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double as the Broncos (1-8) picked up their first of the season.

CHARLES CITY | The Panthers won six of Thursday's matches by pin or forfeit.

Zach Ryg, ranked third in Class 1A at 182 pounds, won an 11-0 major decision over Sam Niichel. Zack Santee, ranked fourth in 1A at 220 pounds, posted a 7-6 decision over Josh Halligan.

Charles City's Dylan Koresh, rated ninth in 2A, pinned Dylan Marker in 3:31.


GHV splits duals

IOWA FALLS | The Cardinals beat Rockford 45-23 and dropped a 58-24 decision to Iowa Falls/Aden Thursday night.

Jared Shaw, wrestling at 152 pounds, picked up two pins, as did 182-pounder Nick Billings.

Urbandale 45, Mason City 31

URBANDALE | Mason City 182-pounder and heavyweight Troy Monahan won by fall. Cullan Schriever won by forfeit at 106.


Ames 107, Mason City 33

AMES | Mason City's Derek Johnson placed second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.9, putting him on the Mohawk all-time chart for the first time.

Michael Rowe was third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:37.37, cutting his personal best by three seconds.

The Mohawks host a meet against Marshalltown on January 3.


Charles City's Connell signs with NIACC

CHARLES CITY | Charles City's Gavin Connell signed a national letter of intent on Thursday to run cross country at NIACC in the fall of 2018.

Connell placed 36th in the Class 3A state cross country meet during his senior season in a time of 16:57 in the five-kilometer race.

On Wednesday, NIACC signed Clear Lake's Sam Pedelty, who placed 40th at the Class 3A state meet.

The NIACC men's cross country team placed 18th at the 2017 NJCAA Division I meet in Fort Dodge. The Trojans' Brian Jacques earned all-American honors with his seventh-place finish.

The NIACC men have placed in the top 10 at the national meet four of the last seven seasons.
