CLEAR LAKE — Even through playing in a little rain early in Tuesday’s Class 1A semifinal between Newman Catholic and Bishop Garrigan, the field couldn’t hold up through a second big wave of heavy rain as the game was postponed to Wednesday.

The game will resume in the top of the fourth with nobody on and nobody out and Newman up 4-1.

The Knights scored four runs in the top of the first on a three-run double by Matthew Fitzsimmons and a run-scoring single by Merritt McCardle.

Garrigan’s one run came in the top of the second on an RBI single by Joel Vaske.

The game resumes at 7 p.m. at Lions Field in Clear Lake. Both teams will have to use different pitchers as Newman’s Evan Paulus and Garrigan’s Chase Hatten each exceed 40 on the night.
