OSAGE — Fresh off a 49-18 drubbing of Charles City on Saturday night, Osage’s Ryan Randall had this assessment:

“The good thing is we haven’t peaked yet,” the senior 160-pounder said.

If the Green Devils haven’t peaked, watch out.

Fifth-ranked (IWCOA) Osage looks like a dual team that can compete with anybody in Class 2A right now.

The Green Devils won 10 of 14 matches against  the eighth-ranked Comets, receiving bonus points in eight of those bouts.

“I think we are close to those top two,” Osage coach Brent Jennings said about Davenport Assumption and West Delaware, the top two ranked teams in Class 2A. “I think we we are definitely the third-best team.”

It would have been hard to find an argument after Saturday’s performance.

Randall, ranked second at 160 pounds, earned a 12-4 major decision over the Comets’ Oscar Guzman.

Luke Hanke followed that with a fall at 170 pounds. The two with drastically different styles go at in the room daily.

Combined they are 49-3 this season.

“I always win,” Randall said with a laugh.

Not quite, he later admitted, but the workout partners certainly benefit each other.

“We push each other quite a bit,” Hanke said. “That’s what you need. You need good partners.”

The Green Devils (23-3) have plenty of that up and down their lineup.

“There are no holes in the lineup,” Hanke said.

Osage started Saturday’s dual with wins in the first four matches and raced to an 18-0 lead.

Chris Hanke (106), Colin Barker (138), Hanke (170), Casey Palsic (182) and Dan Church (285) recorded falls for an Osage team that has every wrestler on the varsity above .500

The packed Osage gym reached a fever pitch when Palsic scored as time expired in the third period to send his match with Brent Kluender into overtime at 182 pounds. Palsic promptly scored a takedown and earned the fall 23 seconds into overtime.

“I’m happy with where we are at and what we’ve accomplished,” Jennings said.
