Rep. Henry Rayhons, R-Garner, said Monday he has writhdrawn as a candidate for re-election in the Iowa 16th District.
"I have served in the Iowa Legislature for 18 years. I have enjoyed my time there," Rayhons said in news release to the Britt News Tribune and Forest City Summit.
Rayhons said he will complete his term as a state representative, but needed to withdraw as a candidate for election in November.
"I am now retired from farming and have ongoing family and health matters to attend to, and feel it is time to pass my legislative duties to a new generation," Rayhons said.
Rayhons, 78, lives in Garner. Rayhons' son Dale, said his father declined to comment further on Monday.
