Every day at Youth for Christ in Mason City, there are positive, life-changing events and conversations taking place. But it’s not every day they are awarded the highest honor within a nationwide organization. Earlier this month, Youth for Christ’s Mason City High School Campus Life Team received the Campus Life Impact Award. This is the highest recognition given out by YFC. In fact, this award hadn’t been awarded for three years because of its hard-to-reach standards.

I have volunteered with Youth for Christ for 15 years and have served alongside hundreds of other volunteers. Not only has this past year been one of the hardest for our kids, it has brought out the best and reminded me of the impact YFC has on our community.

Every Thursday night, nearly a hundred students come to Campus Life to play games, hear about Jesus, and talk about the hardships of life. Every week, I witness how Campus Life is a safe place for our high school students to find someone to pray with, have a volunteer listen about their struggles, or find a source of encouragement rarely found in this world.

Nearly a year ago, five young souls were taken away from our community in a tragic car accident. Without missing a beat, Youth for Christ stepped up to be a leader and bright light during a dark time. Raising finances for the funerals was a drop in the bucket compared to the emotional support the Youth for Christ team provided for the friends, family, and schoolmates.

The Campus Life Impact Award is well deserved, and we’re honored to receive such great acknowledgement.

I could not be more proud to serve alongside the dedicated volunteers and the YFC staff who show up to give back to the kids.
