“This is not a democracy, it is a plutocracy. The people don’t rule here, wealth rules, the corporations rule. They rule the Congress, they elect the President, they run the Pentagon, they own the media.” – Former Attorney General Ramsey Clark, speaking at an anti-war rally in 2002.
Mussolini, the father of Fascism, adopted the saying “Fascism should more appropriately be called corporatism since it is the merger of state and corporate power.”
The GOP Congress recently passed a budget which allows a $1.5 trillion increase in the deficit. If their tax bill passes, $4 trillion in spending cuts will be mandatory because of current law. This means Social Security – Ryan has already said he wants to go after Social Security Disability – Medicare, and Medicaid. Medicare will be cut by $25 billion for next year alone, Medicaid by $179 billion over 10 years.
Bruce Bartlett, an economist who worked in the treasury department under GHW Bush, said this is the most irresponsible tax bill in American history – a totally unnecessary giveaway to corporate and wealthy "donors" who have been on the phones to the congress people they have bought, warning them that if they don’t get these tax cuts, they will note take their phone calls (for campaign donations) again! He says Democrats should just say "No!" instead of trying to make the bill more equitable for the middle class.
Given the expensive hurricanes, wild fires, and the real possibility we may be in another war by next summer, the patriotic thing to do would be to raise taxes on the rich and on the corporations, which have been awash in record profits for years! The ones Eisenhower taxed at a high rate partly because their kids rarely serve in our nations wars!
