As a result of your donations to the United Way Campaign, funds are distributed to local non-profit agencies in the communities where you live and work. Your donations help make your community a better place to live. North Iowa Community Action Organization partners with the United Way in several different ways. This year NICAO received several grants from the United Way.

One grant allows NICAO to assist low income individuals overcome their housing barriers; there were over 130 households who applied for housing assistance last year alone. Another grant allows the Bridges Mentoring Program to continue to provide mentoring services to over 50 children. NICAO also partners with United Way and Community Motors in the Wheels for Work program providing donated cars to individuals so they can overcome transportation barriers to and from work.

The purpose of NICAO is to "Help People, Change Lives and Build Communities." The organization maintains community Outreach offices in each county as well as Head Start classrooms and traveling health clinics. Our mission is “to enrich the growth and development of children, individuals, and families in north central Iowa by empowering them to make life-choices which move them all towards self-sufficiency." NICAO has been making a difference in your community since 1965.

Programs administered by NICAO include: Family Development and Self Sufficiency, Low Income Home Energy Assistance, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance for Free Tax Preparation Services, Disaster Case Management, Weatherization, Head Start, Family Planning, Child Health, Women, Infants, and Children Supplemental Foods, and I Smile Dental Services.

As you can see, partnering with the United Way makes our communities stronger. And your donations make a positive difference in your community. So please support the United Way Campaign.
