I am a retired CenturyLink employee who is still active with my union and the Hawkeye Area Labor Council. In the last year, I have made monthly trips to Mason City and Clear Lake. I find new things to like about the area every time I arrive. Your library is a great place to read and relax. Your local businesses provide shopping and dining out opportunities. Some of the people who dine and shop are public employees and retirees who spend their IPERS in all of Cerro Gordo County.
On March 8, at the MacNider Museum, at 6 p.m., there will a short program that affects teachers, fire fighters, police, city, county, and state employees and their families. You have excellent state representation in Sen. Ragan and Rep. Steckman who are active in resisting any changes to a successful, well-on-its-way-to-being-fully-funded retirement insurance system. Every county in Iowa benefits by having fairly paid retirees spending their money daily in their businesses.
I am looking forward to exploring the MacNider Museum on March 8, and invite you to come and tell me why you like living in Mason City or Clear Lake. Thanks.
