As first lady of Iowa, Christie Vilsack traveled all over the state visiting upward of 500 libraries, championing the cause of literacy. As a teacher and librarian she has been in a position to help bring the future to Iowa’s children.

My own short stint as a teacher taught me that anyone who can get up in the morning to face a room full of other people’s children is no coward.

Iowans have a proud history of leading the way in so many areas and yet we have fallen behind in this: Along with Mississippi, Iowa is one of only two states which has yet to send a woman to Washington.

Please don’t miss the irony of this statistic: A state with the proud history of leading the nation in literacy on a par with a state with one of the lowest literacy rates. I appeal to the voters of the new 4th District to look the future in the eye and send Vilsack to Congress.

'JH', I respect your service to the USA, and I know where you're coming from. But Zeke is as opposed as we are to murderous, totalitarian, communist regimes; he's a pacifistic, Trotskyite Marxist, who is dead-set against Stalinism. The terms "comrade", "communist", "capitalist", etc., have been misconstrued/taken out of context in recent generations. He meant you no harm - seriously, he didn't - in using the term, "comrade". I rarely agree with Zeke, but he's consistently an informed gentleman.

For Ezekiel - I spent 24 years in the Navy, flew with live nuclear weapons off carriers and spent most of my time preparing for what we hope would not happen but being ready to confront communists. Any reference to them, in any way, does not sit well. I am a capitalist and a like nation, alway have been and for the years I have left, always will be.

jhood: Calm down buddy, it ain't like Joe Stalin is coming back from the dead or something!
In my always humble opinion, the Po' Folk need more Socialism. Socialism of course is a a long ways from Communism. "Comrade" has been a Leftwing term from WAT back (even before Karl Marx) and is NOT the exclusive property of the Cold War Commies.

To refer to Vilsack as "comrade" is a horrible insult to her. Anyone in this country thinking we are going in any way toward a communistic form of government has their head "where the sun don't shine".

Of course the PRIMARY reason to vote for Comrade Vilsack is that she will work for the Po' Folks, unlike the reactionary nonComrade King.

    Kathy – nice puff piece.
Now is not the time for a compliant Democratic Party sycophant. I want someone with a back bone that will tell it like it is – Steve King.

False premise. Hundreds of Iowa women - both Democrats and Republicans - HAVE served our citizens in Washington, DC. From former Iowa Senator Jean Lloyd-Jones, to Mason City's Shirley Sandage, and Sandy Blodgett, to Bonnie Campbell, to Dee Jepsen, to my own sister, Suzette Blodgett Clark, DC has benefited from hundreds of women, who've served on Commissions, Boards, and staff positions on Capitol Hill, and the White House. Many were/are presidential appointees of administrations of BOTH parties.

Well, this tops the list for the most stupid reason to vote for Vilsack. Forget she's a carpetbagger who cannot connect with conservatives or moderates in Iowa's 4th. Forget she's a vocal supporter of abortion, gay marriage, Obamacare. Forget she backs Obama's strategy that includes abandonment of US Ambassadors and our soldiers in Afghanistan. Obama has failed misserably yet is spending hundreds of millions to prop up HIS nation building efforts in Egypt, Libya and accross the Arab world.
