Imagine how much fun birthdays can be. Now imagine what it’s like for a child not to be able to have that kind of a birthday. Sad to think about that, isn’t it? Well it is happening right here in our community.
Mothers and their children seeking temporary shelter at Crisis Intervention Service aren’t able to experience the joy of celebrating their birthday.
Last year this happened more than 25 times. That’s heartbreaking. Won’t you join me to help change that? I’ll personally take care of the 25 chocolate cake mixes in honor of our daughter, Jennifer, who thought this would be a much better birthday present than anything else I could give her.
I wish that I could do all of this by myself, but I can’t, so I am asking for help.
Here is what we need to make this Birthday in the Bag program happen:
• 25 frosting containers, candles, paper plates, napkins, gift bag with handles, tissue paper, optional party favors, along with gift ideas inexpensive (around $5).
• For young girls, who celebrate their birthday this year while they are with mom at Crisis Intervention Service, we ask that you might donate any of the following items: stuffed animals, books, card games, journals, lotion, socks, fancy pens or food gift cards.
• For young boys who celebrate their birthday this year at Crisis Intervention Service, we ask that you might donate any of the following items: Slinky, Silly Putty, drawing pads, pencils, stuffed animals, books, card games, Hot Wheels or food gift cards.
If you are interested in donating to the Birthday in a Bag program, you can stop in at Crisis Intervention Service at 206 Third St.N.E., call 641- 424-9071 or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
