A reminder to those who have Art Garfunkel tickets for Friday night’s show at NIACC: No matter that it’s Friday, the 13th. It’s your lucky day because the show has been sold out for weeks. Guard them closely until show time.

That being said, if you don’t have tickets, we have a few other suggestions to get you out of the house on these chilly winter days.

Art exhibits are great places to start.

The Charles H. MacNider Museum in Mason City is featuring “Area Show: 45” through Jan. 28. It’s a juried show featuring works by top artists in this region. Plus many of the outstanding works in the museum’s permanent collection are always on view, and you might want to inquire about one of the unique classes there.

At Waldorf University in Forest City, the paintings of graphic designer Matthew Willemsen are on display through Feb. 24 in the Waldorf Art Gallery. Willemsen, also a design educator, has had his works displayed in Mankato, St. Peter, Minneapolis and other locations.

If you’re looking ahead a bit, the Iowa Boat, RV & Vacation Show will be Jan. 20-22 at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, and Charles City will hold Cabin Fever Weekend Jan. 27-29.

Plus, if you’re just in the mood for a nice night on the town, there are some great places throughout North Iowa to do just that.

Enjoy your weekend. We’ll see you out and about!
