MASON CITY | A Ventura man was charged after apparently trying to ship himself a large amount of marijuana from out-of-state.
According to Cerro Gordo County Sheriff Kevin Pals, members of the North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force and the Sheriff's Department responded to a report of a suspicious package Friday morning at a local parcel shipping company.
Following an investigation, Christopher Michael West, 45, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, failure to affix a drug tax stamp and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Pals said West was in possession of a large amount of marijuana that was shipped from another state that has legalized marijuana for medicinal or recreational purposes. The sheriff said the marijuana did not come from Colorado but he declined to say what state it did come from.
West was taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail where he was booked and then released on bond.
