MASON CITY | The driver who died after colliding with a semi on Highway 18 Wednesday morning has been identified by officials.

Darick Wooldridge, 49, of Harrison, Arkansas, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff's Office. 

The accident occurred before 1:30 a.m. at the 186 mile marker in rural Mason City. Cerro Gordo County deputies say they found a 2002 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Wooldridge and a 2016 Kenworth semi in the median. 

The semi was driven by Jesse Gibson, 28, of North Little Rock, Arkansas. He was uninjured.

Wooldridge was parked on the right shoulder and made a left turn directly into the path of the eastbound semi, the sheriff's office said. 

The accident remains under investigation.

Mason City Police, Mason City Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol and Iowa DOT and Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa Medical Examiner’s office assisted at the scene.

The driver of the Impala sustained life-threatening injuries and died at the scene.

The names of those involved will be releases at a later time, pending notification of family.
