NORTHWOOD — A man charged in the stabbing death of a Northwood woman is scheduled to go to trial next month.

Tyrone Washington, 39, also of Northwood, filed a written plea of not guilty Tuesday in Worth County District Court to first-degree murder in the Aug. 5 death of Justina Marie Smith at Swensrud Park in Northwood.

His trial will begin at 9 a.m. on Oct. 30.

Washington is being held in the Worth County Jail under $500,000 cash-only bond.

Smith reportedly identified Washington as her alleged attacker before her death.

If convicted of the Class A felony, Washington faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
