HAMPTON | A swimming advisory has been issued for Beeds Lake near Hampton after a water sample exceeded levels for E. coli, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

The sample collected this week registered 589, which exceeded the geometric mean standard of 126 E. coli per 100 milliliters of water.

A swimming advisory does not mean the beach is closed. But anyone swimming should take additional precautions, including showering shortly after swimming and avoiding the ingestion of lake water.
