SHEFFIELD | Shannon Latham of Sheffield announced Tuesday she is a Republican candidate for the District 27 Iowa Senate seat held by Democrat Amanda Ragan of Mason City.
Latham is co-owner and vice president of Latham Hi-Tech Seeds, an independent, family-owned seed company founded in 2004 by her husband, third-generation seedsman John Latham.
John Latham is a brother of longtime Iowa congressman Tom Latham, who is now retired.
Prior to joining the family business full-time in 2007, Latham operated her own communications and public relations business.
Other previous work includes serving as an agricultural program coordinator for the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and legislative affairs director for the Agribusiness Association of Iowa.
In her campaign, Latham said she will focus on education, economic development and revitalizing rural Iowa.
