MASON CITY — Seven teenagers were arrested and charged Saturday with minor possession and consumption of alcohol at a party held north of Mason City.
Cerro Gordo County deputies were called to a home at 14587 300 Court, Mason City, at 9:44 p.m. Saturday. The property is owned by Dr. Thoo and Lisa Tan, according to Cerro Gordo County property tax records. They were not at home at the time of the incident.
According to the log of calls for service, deputies received a call saying drugs and alcohol were present at an underage party.
Sheriff Kevin Pals said upon the arrival of deputies, many teens ran away and some ran to a machine shed. When deputies tried to enter the shed, someone allegedly held the door shut.
Pal said some parents arrived about 20-30 minutes after the deputies first arrived. Deputies spoke with Tan on the telephone.
According to Pals, Tan was upset that deputies were on his property without a search warrant.
Deputies remained on the scene while another deputy went to get a search warrant based on what had been observed, Pals said.
The search warrant was signed and a search of the shed was conducted at 1:13 a.m. Eleven teens were found inside. Of those, seven were charged, Pals said. Alcohol, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were allegedly found in the shed, but no drug charges were filed, Pals said.
Those charged with minor consumption and possession of alcohol were Kimberly Nicole Smith, 16; Alex Joseph Linahon, 16; Nolan Zachery Septer, 17; Quentin Hugh Septer, 17; Cassandra Liz Shober, 16; Peter Robert Lapointe, 16; and Michael Kay Tan, 16, who was also charged under the social host ordinance. All are from Mason City.
Pals said four deputies were on the scene. He said the investigation continues.
