SIOUX CITY | The theft trial of Forest City Postmaster Danny D. Miller in federal court in Sioux City has been continued to February.
Miller was to be tried on the charge in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa beginning Jan. 5.
The trial now will begin Feb. 2.
Miller allegedly embezzled mail in his care as postmaster and took prescription medications from the U.S. Mail for his own use.
A grand jury indictment was handed down on Oct. 23.
He has been released on bond pending trial.
The defense asked for a continuance to allow more time to complete the investigation of the case as well as to investigate a possible non-trial resolution.
According to a case management report filed Friday, it is unknown at this time whether the case will be resolved by a guilty plea or a trial.
Miller has worked for the U.S. Postal Service since 1988. He was appointed Forest City postmaster in 2012. He also served as postmaster in Fertile.
The incidents allegedly occurred between May 2013 and July 2014.
