MASON CITY | A man was injured by a knife during an altercation at the Days Inn at 2301 Fourth St. S.W. about 8 p.m. Monday, Mason City police said.

Police Lt. Logan Wernet said that the wound, characterized as a 4-inch laceration to the torso, did not appear to be life-threatening.

Several people were detained and interviewed by police with the aid of an interpreter.

Police said they believe they have the suspect in custody, but Wernet did not release the person's name.

"It appears that everyone involved was working to repair the roof of Wal-Mart," said Wernet.

The injured person was transferred to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa by ambulance.

The name and condition of the person hospitalized was not immediately available.
