In April, the Globe Gazette followed West Fork teacher Laura Shafer and about 20 other educators from Iowa and Nebraska as they participated in the Marine Corps Educators Workshop.
The week-long workshop at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, Calif., was created to give teachers, principals, coaches and counselors a chance to see firsthand the 13 weeks of training a recruit will go through on their road to becoming a U.S. Marine so they can better inform their students back home who are interested in joining the military.
