PUNTA GORDA, Fla. - John Horace Rhoads, 83, of Punta Gorda, died Friday (June 28, 2002) in Punta Gorda.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Peace River Baptist Church, 478 Berry St. in Punta Gorda, Fla. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation was held on Monday at the Punta Gorda Chapel of the Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home.

ALBERT LEA, Minn. - Urania L. Thompson, 91, of Albert Lea, Minn., formerly of Northwood, died on Monday (July 1, 2002) at St. John's Lutheran Home in Albert Lea, Minn.

ALLISON - Annette Marie Smith, 80, of Allison, died Sunday (June 30, 2002) at Allison Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison, with Peg Torrin officiating. Burial will be in Allison Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Allison, with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m.

LARRY L. SCHEEF

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Larry L. Scheef, 65, of Birmingham, formerly of St. Louis, Mo., and Mason City, Iowa, died Friday (June 28, 2002) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Mason City, with the Rev. Bill Poland, of Wesley United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the funeral home.

JOHN J. KELLNER

IONIA - John J. Kellner, 74, of 3080 Fayette Ave., Ionia, died Sunday afternoon (June 30, 2002) of congestive heart failure after spending a day and a half at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Prior to this, he had been a patient for 10 days at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Nashua, with Pastor Marion Sindt officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Nashua.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Chenoweth and Son Funeral Home, 319 Main St. in Nashua and again one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

John Joseph Kellner was born to John C. and Dorothy (Hicks) Kellner on Dec. 13, 1927, at the present farm house in which he has lived his entire life. He was baptized and confirmed in 1942 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Nashua.

John was educated at the McGregor Country School and rural Nashua through eighth grade and graduated from Nashua High School in 1945. Following graduation John farmed on the family farm in the Republic area until retiring in 1992.

John was united in marriage to Lorraine Rogers of Greene on Sept. 23, 1956, at the United Methodist Church in Greene, and to this union five children were born, Leroy, Diane, Craig, Charles, and Cindy. John and Lorraine recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary, with a dance and reception at the Moose Lodge in Charles City.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Nashua, Moose Lodge #1011 Chapter 1095 of Charles City, and Polka Club of Iowa. John served on the Chickasaw County Pork Producers, Bremer County D.H.I.A., Chickasaw County Landfill, and the Chickasaw County Farm Bureau.

John enjoyed rollerskating as an amateur in his younger years. He enjoyed and loved his registered Holstein dairy herd. He also enjoyed dancing for many years at the Riviera Ballroom in Janesville, playing cards, and spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; two sons, Leroy, of Charles City and Charles, of Ionia; two daughters, Diane (James) Oltmann, of Grimes, and Cindy Kellner, of Waterloo; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Kellner Swinton, of Nashua; a mother-in-law, Iva Rogers, of Waverly; five grandchildren, Jimmy and Jamie Oltmann, of Grimes, Stacia, Krista and Austin Kellner, of Nashua; two sisters, Gerry (Stanley) Busching, of Plainfield and Margaret Wright, of Ionia.

He was preceded in death by his son, Craig Kellner on April 12, 1999; his parents, John and Dorothy Kellner; his father-in-law, Burr Rogers; and a brother, Robert in 1934.

STACYVILLE - Eleanor H. Gerk, 82, of Stacyville, died Saturday (June 29, 2002) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Her funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville, with the Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville, with a prayer service and rosary at 6:30 p.m.

ARMANDO DURAN

CLARION - Armando Duran, 13-month-old son of Jose Santos and Danielle Negrete Duran, of Galt, formerly of Des Moines, died on Sunday (June 30, 2002) at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Clarion, with Father Ricardo Cordova and Father David Beckman officiating. Burial will take place in St. John's Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Willim Funeral Home, 602 N. Main St. in Clarion, with a scripture service and rosary held at 7 p.m. There will be additional visitation one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Danielle and his father, Santos, of Galt; two brothers, Alejandro and Jose, both at home; his grandparents, Josefina and Jose, of Mexico, and Alex and Diane Negrete, of Eagle Grove; and numerous aunts and uncles.

JOSEPH M. FRITZ

MASON CITY - Joseph M. Fritz, 90, of 22253 Orchid Ave., died Sunday (June 30, 2002) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

His funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. Dennis Cahill and the Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with a 7 p.m. Scriptural wake service.

Memorials may be directed to Joseph M. Fritz Memorial Fund.

Joe was born on Oct. 19, 1911, in Brighton, the son of Edward J. and Theresa (Pieffer) Fritz. The family moved to Mason City when Joe was a small boy. He attended Freeman School and later Holy Family High School.

At age 18, he went to work for the Iowa State Highway Commission where he worked 14 years. Joe farmed north of Mason City his entire life, retiring in 1974.

He was a former Cerro Gordo County Supervisor and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Florence, of Mason City; two children, Joseph Jerry Fritz, of Mason City, Jo Ann Burns and Charles Martens, of Clear Lake; five grandchildren, Todd Burns and wife, Marcie, of Hanlontown, Robert Burns, of Iowa City, Julie Olson and husband, Randy, of Mason City, and James Fritz and wife, Julie, of Plymouth, and Jay Fritz of Mason City; one great-granddaughter, Taylor Neuhring, of Mason City; one sister, Margaret Healy and husband, John, of Solvang, Calif.; one brother, Elmer Fritz, of Mason City; one brother-in-law, Ralph Willier, of Leland; many nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Marie Eggleston, Loretta Stanger and Edna Fritz; 3 brothers; Paul, Wilford and Emmett.

HILMA J. BROWN

MASON CITY - Hilma J. Brown, 91, of Mason City died Saturday (June 28, 2002) at the Good Shepherd Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave. with the Rev. James M. Magelssen officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Hilma J. Brown was born on Nov. 22, 1910 in Worth County, Iowa, the daughter of Halvor S. and Josie (Roppe) Banken. She attended school in Hanlontown.

She was united in marriage to Ilo W. Brown on March 29, 1941, in Kensett, Iowa.

She worked for Deckers and Mason City Tent and Awning for several years before beginning her career at State Brand Creameries. She retired in 1974 after twenty years of service.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She enjoyed playing cards and caring for her dogs.

She will be missed by those who knew and loved her including, her sister, Ella Wahl, of Mason City; her sister-in-law, Myrtle Banken, of Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ilo, in 1959; two sisters, Hazel Banken and Alice Grosland; and six brothers, Clarence, Oscar, Carl, Fred, Irvin and Ole.

DELOS D. MILLER

ACKLEY - Delos Dale Miller, 74, of Ackley, died Sunday (June 30, 2002) at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Dumont Reformed Church in Dumont, with the Rev. Robert Scholten officiating. Burial will be in the Dumont Cemetery, with a flag folding ceremony by the Dumont Legion.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Sietsema FuneralHome in Dumont.
