Meservey - Frances A. (Schmidt) Groen was born June 9, 1923 in rural Meservey to John R. and Tena (Ostendorf) Schmidt.
She graduated from the Meservey School in 1941. She married Marvin R. Groen in 1941. They lived in Chicago for about two years then moved back to the Meservey area. They had two daughters, Ronda Lee and Sheila Jean.
Frances was a cook at the Meservey School for many years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking, and cooking which she did for many people. She was a dedicated member of the First Reformed Church in Meservey for most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977, her daughters Sheila Greenwood in 1980 and Ronda Pals in 2009, her parents John R. and Tena Schmidt, brother Ralph Schmidt and sister-in-law Dorothy Schmidt, sister Esther Boelman and brother-in-law Herman Boelman, sister Arlene Kaldenberg and brother-in-law John Kaldenberg, sister Loraine Bertilson and brother-in-law Maynard Bertilson, and the entire Groen family.
Frances is survived by her son-in-law Delbert Pals; son-in-law Tim Greenwood; grandsons Marty Pals, Scott Pals, Lance Pals, and Tim Greenwood; granddaughters Jennifer (Greenwood) Cornelius and Katie (Greenwood) Price; great-grandchildren Kyle, Alex, Ranae, Sierra, and Ava as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 11th, 2017 at the First Reformed Church in Meservey, Iowa. Friends and family are welcome to gather before the service to visit and celebrate Frances' life. Graveside services will be at the Meservey Cemetery and luncheon will follow the funeral service.
