ROCKWELL- Arlene C. Schmitt, 90, of Rockwell, died Sunday February 11, 2018, at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 am Friday, February 16, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 305 Elm St E, Rockwell, with Reverend John A. Gossman officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Thursday, February 15, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 305 Elm St E, Rockwell with a Rosary and sharing of memories at 7:00 pm.

Arlene Clare Tiemessen was born on May 28, 1927, the daughter of John and Helena (Glaser) Tiemessen in New Hampton, Iowa. She attended and graduated from St. Mary's School in North Washington.

Arlene married Vincent Schmitt on September 9, 1947 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in North Washington. To this union eight children were born: Bev, Nancy, Joyce, Pat, Karen, Dan, Dale and Julie.

The couple farmed near Rockford for 20 years and then moved to Rockwell in 1968. Arlene was a talented quilter and seamstress, enjoyed crossword puzzles, card games and was an avid reader. In later years, Arlene and her sisters embarked on many adventures across the United States.

Arlene had a smile for everyone and a contagious sense of humor. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and all will miss her dearly.

Arlene is survived by her children: Bev (Jeff) Van Blair, Nancy (Mick) Milligan, Joyce Bieth, Pat (John) Ferin, Karen Hamilton, Dan (Diane) Schmitt, Dale Schmitt and Julie (Doug) Sheriff, her grandchildren: Katie Van Blair, Dave (Amy) Van Blair, Andy (Lisa) Van Blair, Jenny Van Blair, Michael Milligan, Sarah Milligan (Carl Beadle), Annie (Brett) Bieth-Jacobs, Molly Bieth , Brian (Nicole) Ferin, Joe (Caitlyn) Ferin, Lisa (Rob) Dickmeyer, Erin Hamilton, Chris Schmitt, Audrey Schmitt, Amanda Schmitt, Emily Schmitt, Ryan Schmitt, Elliott Sheriff (Bailey Knudson), Haley (Greg) Engels, great-grandchildren: Chloe Van Blair, Chase Van Blair, Preston Van Blair, Lexi Van Blair, Carter Van Blair, Evan Spence, Vivian Spence, Kaitlin Beadle, Oliver Dickmeyer.

She was preceded in death by her husband Vince, her parents, granddaughter Jessica, and 6 siblings.
